Choosing yours

These are concert grade sets. The shell turning and skin work are done to a standard that shows in sustain and in how cleanly the drum articulates fast material.

Bayan metal and weight follow the usual logic: brass for a brighter attack, copper for a warmer and deeper bass, with most players settling around 3 to 3.5 kg.

Tuning and setup

Skins fitted, syahi applied and the set tuned before dispatch, then checked again on the day it goes.

A concert set rewards careful tuning. Work around the drum evenly, quarter turns at a time, rather than pulling at one point.

Questions we get asked

Who are these sets for?

Players past the student stage who want better sustain and cleaner articulation. A beginner will not hear the difference for a year or two.

What is the syahi?

The black tuning paste at the centre of the head. Its thickness and evenness largely determine the drum's pitch and tone.

How do I look after a concert set?

Slacken the tuning for storage, keep it out of direct heat, and have it reskinned rather than replaced when the tone eventually goes.
