Choosing yours

An electric sitar is a different instrument from an acoustic one, not a cheaper version. It has a solid or semi solid body, a pickup, and few or no sympathetic strings, because they cannot be mic'd cleanly at volume.

It exists for situations where a traditional sitar cannot be amplified without feedback: stage work, studio recording, playing alongside a band.

Volume and tone controls are standard. It plugs into any guitar amplifier.

Questions we get asked

Does an electric sitar sound like an acoustic one?

Close, but with less of the sympathetic resonance, which is what a microphone cannot capture cleanly at volume anyway.

What amplifier do I need?

Any guitar amplifier will work. A clean amp with a decent midrange suits it best.

Can I learn on an electric sitar?

You can, though most teachers will want you on an acoustic instrument first, since the technique and the sympathetic strings are part of the tradition.
