Mukta Das owns the Rhythm Tabla Shop in Kolkata, and comes from eleven generations of tabla makers. His drums have been played by leading masters, and he supplied tablas to Ustad Zakir Hussain.

Mukta Das builds in the Calcutta tradition, with thinner heads than Bombay or Delhi instruments. The drum speaks without being struck hard and gives the sweet, bell-like tone many soloists prefer.
