The naal is a barrel drum from Maharashtra and Punjab, played horizontally, with a sharper attack than a dholak and a tighter bass.
Bolt tuning is standard, adjusted with the supplied spanner. That holds pitch better than rope and adjusts in seconds.
Slacken the tuning for storage longer than a few weeks. Skins move with humidity within hours, so retune rather than assuming a fault.
