Choosing yours

The naal is a barrel drum from Maharashtra and Punjab, played horizontally, with a sharper attack than a dholak and a tighter bass.

Bolt tuning is standard, adjusted with the supplied spanner. That holds pitch better than rope and adjusts in seconds.

Care and climate

Slacken the tuning for storage longer than a few weeks. Skins move with humidity within hours, so retune rather than assuming a fault.

Questions we get asked

How does a naal differ from a dholak?

Sharper attack and a tighter bass, with a different shell profile. Both are played horizontally with the hands.

Is a spanner included?

Yes, along with a padded bag. What is included is listed on each product page.

How do I tune it?

Tighten opposite bolts in sequence, a quarter turn at a time, listening after each pair. Working around the rim in order pulls the head out of true.
