Choosing yours
This is the widest range on the site because it is the range we control. When you buy a Maharaja instrument you are buying from the people who set it up, which means we can answer questions about a specific piece rather than about a category.
If you are new to Indian instruments, the usual starting points are a two reed harmonium, a dholak, or a medium scale bansuri. All three are forgiving, useful across devotional and folk music, and inexpensive enough that a change of mind costs little.
For serious study, the decision is usually between our range and a named specialist maker. Our instruments are built to a consistent standard and priced accordingly. A Kanai Lal sitar or a Hemen tanpura carries a maker's reputation and a longer wait.
What we do before it ships
Every instrument in this range passes through our Delhi workshop. Harmoniums are tuned to A440 and every key played through. Drums are skinned and tuned. Stringed instruments are strung to their designed gauges with the jawari cut by hand.
We check again on the day of dispatch, because a reed that behaved on the bench can buzz once an instrument has been closed up and moved.

They are made for us by craftsmen near Delhi, then finished and tuned in our Delhi workshop before they ship. The setup work, tuning and final checks are ours.
